This week’s readings

Fayetteville’s public library has a pretty decent comic book collection,  besides the place is beautiful, I go once a week to read and draw. This week’s picks are:

Love and Rockets vol. 23 – Luba: Three Daughters

Gilbert Hernández

Phantagraphics Books

I’m an avid reader of the Hernandez Brother’s comic books since I found the Love & Rockets collection “Locas” some years ago.  I love the way they create and nurture their characters (my favorite ones, are of course Maggie and Hopey) in a universe with lots of surreal elements. It is like a really good soap opera, lots of weird things can happen, but human relationships are the most important element, depicted in an honest and imaginative way.  “Luba – Three Daughters”  is about three sisters with their own particular idiosyncrasies who meet when they are adults. They certainly care for each other but family dynamics are never that simple.

I’m reading also:

Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid in the World

Chris Ware

Pantheon Books

I haven’t finished this one yet, but I already appreciate its graphic quality, intelligence and dark humor. I’m definitely adding Chris Ware to my list of  “must read” authors.

Hello again!

After my old blog was stolen (kokeshidoll.blogspot) I found hard to start a new one from scratch again. However, since I’m working in a new version of my website and I want to keep my work in just a few sites I decided to open my blog again, with a new name in a new place.  Feel free to take a look and leave your comments :), besides of my usual WIP  posts I’ll be writing about the books I’m reading and some personal projects here.

Lots of things have happened since last year, I’m living in a small town now and I’m taking time to learn new things, like knitting. I’m still using two needles and one yarn color, the idea is to start my first sweater soon. In the meantime Paloma Libertad is wearing my experiments.
